Five Things to Do When Building Your Personal Authority/Branding
Building your authority and personal branding as an affiliate marketer has many benefits, and the quality of your branding can be the difference between making a decent living online or not. Authority building and personal branding help you build a strong following/tribe and help you maximize the potential of your target audience. Considering both authority recognition and personal branding should be one of your first objectives in your online strategy, the first part of outlining a business strategy for any committed online entrepreneur.
The notion that having an identifiable authority and a personal brand is exclusive to the corporate world is an outdated belief. As the world has transformed in terms of speed of communication, the proliferation of e-commerce, and the growth of social media, everyone needs to have a way of getting heard or noticed; in effect, everyone needs a brand. It is almost a prerequisite if you want your voice to be heard.
In this third video in my series, I will share my view of the top five benefits of shaping your authority and personal branding strategy.
1. Making a Great Impression
People want to know the story behind a brand. They want to know the who, what, where, when, why and the how of you!
Your followers/tribe want to know why they should even care about what you have to offer them, and building a high authority level/brand in your chosen niche needs to make it abundantly clear that you are better and more trusted than all the rest. The impression on your subscribers/followers is everything and should be your number one priority.
2. Building Your Credibility
If you have high personal authority/branding, it projects you as confident, knowledgeable and subsequently highly credible. Potential audiences want to follow someone who is considered trustworthy and reliable.
3. Make Yourself Accessible
If you have high authority and have a personal brand, you are significantly easier to find than online background noise. Imagine how difficult it would be to single you out to search for “that person doing that thing”? So it would help if you made it as easy as possible for people to find you. If you don’t, given people’s attention span these days, they are likely to quickly give up and move on to someone else who can give them what they need.
Take note of “KISS” (keep it simple stupid). Make sure that your usernames are all relevant and are all the same. If for some reason you can’t achieve that then, I would recommend that you make them as similar as possible or try and find something else. For this reason, it makes sense for you to try and grab all your usernames and profiles (social media) before committing to a brand. TIP: If you can get a domain name with your surname, I would start with that. If you can’t grab your name with a dot Com, then the following best is dot Net.
You also need to ensure that there is a good linkage between your website and your social media pages, as well as your YouTube channel. These can all be easily synchronized (I would recommend Syndlab for this). Once you have synchronized them all, make sure that you test them out to check that they all work and that there are no broken links.
It is also worth making sure that you are open with your contact information as your following/tribe will want to engage with you. You can do this by encouraging comments on your work, posts, videos etc. or more privately by email. Make it as easy as possible for people to connect with you. TIP: Not everyone will feel comfortable being contacted or even identified on the internet, but the more accessible you are, the more likely you will build a robust and loyal following. In terms of how quickly you can respond to people, adopt a promising and overdelivering philosophy.
4. Benefits of Branding
Having a solid personal brand generates greater exposure and opportunities for other people within your chosen niche to feature you and your work. Strong brand identity also makes it easier for your followers/tribe to find your content specifically in their newsfeed or inbox. Having an instantly recognizable brand helps you rise above your competition.
An excellent robust and reputable brand that helps you get featured in another person’s content is the hallmark of solid branding. Other brands running profiles on you is a great way to grow your audience–and strong branding makes you easily identifiable.
5. You Are Building a Long-Term Asset
It is a sad fact that many online entrepreneurs fail. Brands last. A strong, recognizable brand helps to keep you in people’s minds far longer than merely the time they spend looking at your content, whether written or in a video.
When someone thinks of your niche, you want them to think of you instantly. Therefore, having complete and credible authority and recognizable branding is essential to remaining at the forefront of your audience’s mind.
Being the first “go-to” person should be a priority goal for you and your business at all times, and solid personal authority and outstanding branding is the easiest way to achieve this. Do this well and consistently, and you will undoubtedly and stand out from the crowd.
